If you are a canton pop lover, this is the restaurant you should not miss. Opened by a member of the entertainment industry, Crisly Café is set to pay tribute to the splendid years of Capital Artists Music Limited, a prominent record company in the 1970s-80s.
Crisly Café is famous for scrambled egg and milk tea which enjoys as much popularity as their counterparts at Australian Dairy Company. In addition, Crisly offers a lot of other kinds of snacks and dishes.
Principal’s Toast (校長多士) (cheese and truffle toast) was originally custom-made for Alan Tam, a famous artist in the 1980s. Fondly nicknamed “the Principal”, Tam has served as a mentor for many later-comers in the cantopop music industry. The toast is set at $25 because Alam Tam famously joked that he would remain 25 years old every year – an insider joke that perhaps only the old generation will get.
Another popular snack served at Crisly Café is the Devils Submarine (魔鬼潛艇). To guess what it is, picture a submarine in your head. What does it look like? A hotdog! In fact, submarine is the traditional name for hotdog used by the locals in the 60s-70s, this is due to its long and oval shape. Devils Submarine stands for hotdog with wasabi mayonnaise, instead of traditional ketchup and mustard. A bite into the spicy hotdog sends tears to your eyes, but it is probably all worth it.
To get a taste of the golden years of Hong Kong’s pop culture, give Crisly Café a visit!
