Strolling around Tai O in sticky hot summer can really make you sweat like a pig. What could be the best way to cool yourself down after a big sweat – how about chilling by an infinity pool in the woods?
Man Cheung Po, a man-made catchment providing water supply to Tai O villagers, is one of the rare scenes in the city of hustle and bustle. The basin against a waterfall backdrop definitely catches the eyes of swimmers and picture enthusiasts that later transform it into an Instagram hotspot. But the “pool” is now closed to the public with some fences built around it to prevent people from swimming in and polluting around. Still, you can pass through it easily and nobody will shout at you if just chilling on the side with a few pictures taken– just do not do anything irrational.
You can start your journey walking southward from the Tai O Bus Terminal. The short hike on the coastal concrete walkway, which takes about an hour, is easy-peasy and you will be protected from the burning sun as most sections of the path are shielded. There are direction signs leading you the way. After about 30 mins, you will reach a set of two signs but don’t take the stairs up right away – walk for another 10 mins and take the next flight of steps instead that lead you straight to the pool. Make sure you pass through a blue house on your way up and the most awaiting scene will soon come into view.

1. Wear proper hiking shoes as the path could be quite slippery.
