Top 4 Places Locals Shop for Fashion – Discover The Hong Kong Vogue

June 9, 2021

Wondering the Hong Kong style of fashion? Perhaps the locals can hardly give you a precise answer as where we shop are like boxes of chocolates, where you never know what you’re going to get whenever you pop into a new store. Yet, here’s a brief description of each of the boxes.

  1. Kwai Chung Plaza

Known as a place that offers one of the town’s best street snacks, 1st and 2nd floors of the Plaza are where you explore the teen’s craze. Some vintage Japanese or Korean-style, pastel or earth tone clothes and oxford shoes may capture your eyes, which is in fact the “artistic youth wannabe” (偽文青) style clothes for those who loves to indulge themselves in the mood of being an art enthusiast by dressing like one.

2. Island Beverley & Laforet

Across the road from the Sogo department store, Island Beverley is where you can find cocktail dresses and shoes. Boutiques offer affordable cocktail dresses, both ready-made and tailor-made, which will take a week or two. But after all, you’ll find something perfect for a night out!

Clothes in Laforet may be rather similar to those in Kwai Chung Plaza, but of a wider variety to explore. Vintage and funky 60s clothes are just in vogue. The bargain-basement priced garments can definitely save you a fortune from purchasing from fast-fashion brands.

3. Argyle Centre

Not only is Phase 1 of Argyle Centre the origin of MK style (abbreviation of Mongkok), but also one of the inexpensive spots to fashion-hunt. The MK style is best-known for over-edgy but cheap looks with strong localness and unaesthetic incorporation of Japanese/ Korean influence. Due to all the cringiness of the MK tag, boutiques now go for Japanese and Korean style. Still, some offer wholesale-priced T-shirts, which are the all-time basics. Have a bargain with the shopkeepers to grab your best boughts!

4. Kwun Tong Industrial Area

The most popular buildings that everyone opts for are the Camelpaint Buildings. The three blocks have a variety of outlets, such as Nike, Adidas and Initial doing massive sales, as well as some smaller stores, for instance, Our Things (a local fashion brand) on the upper floors. Furthermore, Triumph outlet located in Lemmi Centre is the place to purchase quality lingerie. Have a walk around the area to expose yourself to the myriad of options.

No matter if you are heading to any of these places for a fashion-hunt to fill your wardrobe in HK style or just putting yourself into something new, take your time to indulge into the world of fashion in Hong Kong. You will certainly find the piece of chocolate that is up your street.
