When each country is of distinguishable fashion taste, Hong Kong is no exception – but the locals tend to have a love-hate relationship with the Mongkok style. It is a term referring to the subcultural group who often dress in edgy or over-the-top style of clothing without truly knowing the implications of their outfits. It now has more positive connotations at the present than in the past as some say the MK style reflects the authenticity of Hong Kong youth cultures. Though it is gradually diminishing due to globalizing fashion trends, you can still catch glimpses of what it is like amid the crowd at the Argyle Centre in Mongkok, if you are observant enough.

Mongkok MTR Exit D1 is a popular meet-up point for youngsters who are ready to lose themselves in the crowded stores at Argyle Centre. The multi-story shopping mall has captured the hearts of young fashionistas particularly girls or guys who have a girlfriend, with its wide variety of fashion items, from youthful Korean/Japanese styles, smart casual office wear to funky quirky accessories. No worries if your wallet is not fat enough as the centre is also known as the city’s cheapest place to shop, with items priced around $50 – $80 each. Uncountable choices, latest fashions and low cost – the Argyle Centre has made lots of young dreams come true.

Take your time and explore all the floors (3 levels) before purchasing!
Beside clothes and shoes, there are wigs, beauty products, snacks and other trendy gadgets

But there could be a few pet peeves that will get under your skin if you plan to shop around. You seldom get chances to try the clothes on as only a handful of stores got space for fitting rooms. The clothes are not that promising quality-wise so check the sewing, zips, holes and everything before paying.

This place is always popular for youngsters, especially around 4pm
