Hosting an array of al fresco dining places and connecting most of the major spots of Stanley, the promenade is a lovely boardwalk along the romantic Stanley Bay dotted with small boats. Lots of the locals love to take a short walk with their cute pets, sip a beer at the bars that set up patio outdoor umbrellas and take pictures with the colonial heritage settings.
Apart from the Murray House and Blake pier at one end, Stanley Plaza houses a variety of cute stores and fancy restaurants that you can enjoy. It also hosts themed handicraft markets on an occasional basis and the most famous one has to be the Christmas Market, where thousands of citizens would flock to for its beautiful festive decorations and local handmade products.
Head east towards the Stanley Back Beach and you will notice a line of 8 red brick houses topped with Chinese tiled roofs at the other end of the promenade. Named as “Pat Kan Uk”, literally meaning “8 houses”, these homes are indeed listed as Grade 3 historic building, that is in stark contrast with the westernized town. They were built by the British government to settle the villagers as compensation, who were affected by their plans to build barracks around Wong Ma Kok to respond to the Japanese Invasion. Just a reminder that the houses are still in use so please don’t cause any disturbance to the residents.
