Entrance

Rooted in a century old building, Kung Lee keeps its true color of old school Hong Kong. Chinese calligraphy hung on the wall. Fans on high celling. Vintage hand painted ad. Soon as you walk into the shop, you travel back to the old days in colonial Hong Kong.

Before soft drinks and beer took over locals’ imagination of beverages, folks loved to come to herbal tea shops for a traditional drink. Kung Lee was just another popular hangout spots. What made it famous though, was its signature sugar cane juice.

Beautiful old tiles on the wall

Kung Lee takes pride in using sugar cane 100% made in Hong Kong. The sugar cane are all farmed in Yuen Long, an old town in the New Territories. A specific kind of sugar cane is selected; a special treatment when growing is applied; and a whole bunch of procedures are required before juicing, for the best quality of the drink.

Sugar cane juice might be a little too sweet for some, but people, especially labours, needed it in the past. Other drinks are just as refreshing as they are healthful. Go for sugar cane tea if you want less sweet. Or, plum tea if you like sour.

All in all, herbal tea helps calm your body under hot weather, while the “heat” terminator being turtle jelly, always. Nowadays, you can also find sugar cane beer, a new product co-produced with a local brewery. From a traditional Chinese cafe to a living monument, throughout the years, Kung Lee remains a place folks love and support.
