Gold Mui Kee Sea Food Stall is a Dai Pai Dong (大排檔) that opened indoor. It has kept all the essence of a traditional Dai Pai Dong – delicious food, casual round table settings, friendly waiters. Altogether these form an ideal place in Tsim Sha Tsui for you to relax after a long day and enjoy a Hong Kong-style supper.

In addition to common Dai Pai Dong dishes like Stir-Fried Clams with Black Bean Sauce (豉椒炒蜆), Steamed Scallop with Garlic (蒜蓉蒸扇貝), Gold Mui Kee has made a few twists using conventional food. Stuffed Donut (鬼馬油炸鬼) is made of two ingredients that don’t usually come together, Chinese fried donuts and cuttlefish paste. Chinese fried donut is usually eaten during breakfast with congee, or in some parts of China, with soy milk. While cuttlefish paste is a common snack found in coastal Chinese cities where cuttlefish is first grounded and then being hit until it’s chewy (In Cantonese, “plastic” texture). By stuffing the cuttlefish paste in Chinese fried donut, Gold Mui Kee creates a new dish that gives you a mixed texture, crispy on the outside and chewy inside.

Beer is always the best drink here. In the eyes of local, deep-fried food is considered to be hot-air (熱氣), which will make your inner body burn in Chinese medicine terminology. Beer, aka foreigner’s herbal tea, solves all these problems. In Gold Mui Kee, you will be given chilled bowls, instead of glasses, which even got the name “fighting bowl” (戰鬥碗). Bottoms Up! You find see the Chinese character “win” (勝). The one who drinks the most and fastest win!
