Craftissimo is our favourite bottle shop and it may easily be yours too. At such a petit shop, beer geeks can find satisfaction and casual wanderers can stop by for a brief fizzy rest or a whole chilling afternoon.
The magical place is hiding at one of the alleys off Tai Ping Shan Street. Keep an eye on the large window wall, the sharp black frame and the very instagrammable wall painting next to it. Within the limited space, over the shelves and the recently added racks of fridges, you can find a rich and distinctive selection of beer from the UK, Europe, US, Australia, Asia and of course, Hong Kong.
From Belgian Trappist beer, the legendary Mikkeller, sour farmhouse ale, double IPAs to ciders, there must be something to your taste. Or, just spill yourself to the unknown – pick up a funky cover and go for it. There is no leaving without trying at least one local craft beer. Cans and bottles may have the edge over draught because it maximizes choices and freshness – one does not need to wait for the whole keg to finish up before getting another. If you must insist, taps are always in service.
It is a bottle shop but it functions almost as nice as a bar. You can enjoy your still-freezing beer at the chill sitting-out area at the back of the store. The neighbourhood around the shop is fascinating. The gentrified Tai Ping Shan Street houses many fancy shops, galleries and cafes. The whole Sheung Wan area has some of HK’s most important historical monuments. You shall find a juxtaposition of antique shops, cafes and coffin shops (Yes, coffee and coffin). Good walk from Sheung Wan MTR or from the Central/Soho area.
