Victoria Harbour – the center of Hong Kong between Hong Kong island and the Kowloon Peninsula, the witness to the region’s century of colonial history and urban development. There is no reason to miss the best spot to drink by the harbor.

Yes, to enjoy the harbor view, there are bars at the podium of IFC (the shopping mall) but they are boring and the top 50 playlist is always too loud. And there is Shake Shacks with its overpriced New York fries. If you are the 1%, you can be in the room at the top of the Four Seasons Hotel. Otherwise, come down to the harbor front. It is open and free.

There are several minibars around pier 3 and 4. They serve beer on taps and in cans and bottles. Wine and simple ice-cold mixes are also available. Choices are sufficient and prices are reasonable. Grab a drink, sit at the stairs or lean on the fences, feel the sea breezes, smell the harbor, listen to the hustling cityscape, enjoy the view upfront and chat up to your friends and whoever seems friendly enough.

The weekend crowd provides the best vibe. After a drink or two, it is normal to feel peckish. The food stall at Pier 4 serves hot, spicy local snacks such as curry fish balls, rice rolls with mixed sauces, and steamed meatballs. Get a combo set! Sweet waffles are also available.

Perhaps it is the taste of freedom that makes the spot more delicious than any other place. At the promenade you shall see not only crowds drinking and chatting but also groups picnicking with their dogs, ferry passengers hustling in and out, people jogging, fishing, busking, dating, kissing, etc.
The central pier takes you to the outlying islands. At Pier 7, you can take Star Ferry to Tsim Sha Tsui. From the pier, the promenade extends further eastward to Wanchai/Causeway bay and Westward to Sheung Wan/Kennedy Town.
