Sham Shui Po is the paradise of DIY lovers.  It doesn’t matter whether your thing is creating hand-made knickknacks, sewing clothes or leather goods, or putting together a personalized computer, you will find everything you need for your project there; it’s also the place for thrift shoppers, where second-hand and vintage items can be found. If you’re an electronics fanatic, then Apliu Street (鴨寮街) is perfect for you to go Easter eggs hunting.

The moment you step out of the MTR exit, you might be overwhelmed by the rather unruly situation in front of you.  Hawker tents on both sides of the road show off their products by hanging them up and scattering them on the ground; from time to time passers-by carrying a cart walk into each other—be it a shopkeeper delivering their merchandises or a customer who’s ready to bring home their newly-acquired trophies; before global tourism was brutally stroke by COVID-19, the first few stalls around the MTR exit were often crowded by travelers looking for international prepaid SIM cards.

Virtually anything electrical can be found on Apliu Street—hi-fi stereo sets, cameras, cell phone and computer components, indoor lightings, batteries and cable cords.  You name it.  Like any flea market, sometimes items do not come with a price label.  In such cases it’s pretty much up to the shopkeeper to make the numbers up.  Therefore one tip is to keep that impulsive shopping to yourself and don’t feel intimidated to compare a few shops before actually purchasing.

A range of old phone models
There are some vendors selling old Chinese relics, antique watches, and retro accessories.
Pre-Paid SIM cards for many different countries, such as Thailand, Japan and Korea

If you had no luck getting what you want on Apliu Street, perhaps try visiting the nearby Golden Computer Arcade (黃金電腦商場) and Golden Computer Centre (高登電腦中心) on Fuk Wing Street, which are also prominent hunting fields for computer games and gadgets.
