Connecting downtown Tung Chung and Ngong Ping, where the Big Buddha nestles, Ngong Ping 360 is the cable car service that gives you a lift to the attraction of transcendence.
Before the completion of the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) in 1998, the only way to access Lantau Island was by ferry. To get to the Big Buddha, there would be another 10 to 20 kilometers of trail to go depending on which pier you got off at. Visiting the Big Buddha back in the days used to be as much of a physical challenge as it is a spiritual endeavor.
The completion of HKIA and MTR Tung Chung Line in 1998 brought an insatiable demand for the Big Buddha and the narrow one-way Tung Chung Road, where both locals and tourists suffered from an everlasting traffic jam. To satisfy the soaring demand of tourism and community, the 5.7km skyrail was finally established in 2006, making the Big Buddha a major attraction to visit easily.
The fastest and most exciting
Listed as “Top 10” cable experience in the world by credible media such as CNN, The Telegraph, and USA Today, the cable car provides a fascinating seascape and substantially reduces the travel time to approximately 25 minutes, which no bus can compare. However, it comes with a higher cost at over 200 HKD per single trip.
If you do plan to take the cable car, we recommend going for the Crystal Cabin where the line is usually shorter (after you have purchased a ticket) and enjoy the bird’s-eye view through the glass under your feet. During the journey, not only can you relish the panorama of South China Sea, but also see the plane landing and taking off from the airport. The newly built Hong Kong-ZhuHai-Macao Bridge is also in sight.

Once you touch down in Ngong Ping, you will find yourself in a traditional-style village where you can treat yourself with some snack and drink or simply unleash your shopping impulse: souvenir shops, restaurants, and a 5D theatre are all available there!
