Michael Tsang
My name is Michael and I am the founder of The Hong Kong Free Tours.
I was born and raised in Hong Kong but I also spent a long time abroad. Once in a while, someone would ask me for any tips before he traveled to Hong Kong, I was never able to give many good suggestions beyond the major attractions. Feeling compel to better represent my identity, I started to visit every tourist spot in Hong Kong whenever I returned to visit my family. Eventually I realize the history of Hong Kong was never written from a local perspective: it was first the British and now the Chinese.
After spending twelve years as an actuary, I decided to quit my job and do something more meaningful. I was fascinated by the idea and popularity of Free Walk Tours in Europe so I decided to do it in Hong Kong. At first it was my passion that started this business, but it was a mission that carries us to where we are today: The more tours we do, the more we felt the responsibility to tell the stories of Hong Kong from the Hong Konger’s perspective.
Hence our motto – Hong Kong Stories, Told by Hong Kong People.
