Remember the biblical scene that Moses led people to cross the red sea? It seems impossible, but such an extravaganza does happen in Sharp Island every day. It’s in fact worth a full day to visit!

How is the sea cut?

Sad to say, there’s no magical power involved, but how can people walk from one island to another? The answer is tombolo – two islands are actually connected by a bridge. Owing to tidal movement, when it turns down below 1.4 meters, the natural sand levee that links up two islands will emerge again. Consisted of grain and seashell debris, people are able to saunter on the 250-meter-long tombolo before it drains out again. Better check the time of tide on observatory before you go.

Pineapple buns

After taking the steps across the sea, there’re thousands of pineapple buns awaiting on the island – though they’re uneatable. Strange to say, the rocks having been eroded perennially, has interestingly shaped in semicircle, which coincidently resemble the iconic food of Hong Kong!

Wonderful beaches on island

The farther from the city, the clearer the sea will be. Don’t belittle this small island, on which there’re many beautiful beaches, but among all of them, Ha Mun Bay is highly recommended. Also known as Half Moon Bay, it is located near the pier, and also has a good quality of water, yet much quieter than any other beaches on the island, where you can enjoy the tranquility with a view of the southward sea.

Wide range of marine creatures

Sharp Island is also renowned for snorkeling and scuba diving, due to its placid condition of water and wonderful ocean life. Less than 1-meter depth, it’s not hard to see those dancing corals. There are more than 300 kinds of coral fish in Hong Kong, and here you can find 120 of them!

In addition to Sharp Island, there’s something else worth a visit. Go check the link as follows.
