Your best gins probably come from Scotland but it is never wrong to add a new member to the selection on your counter all the way from Hong Kong. As surprising as it might sound, the NIP Gin, founded by Jeremy Lin and Nick Law who had no backgrounds in spirit making, is a game changer pushing forward the distilling cultures in town. Infused with locally inspired flavors that ring a bell with every local, the transparent bottle with its name coined from “Not Important Person”, embodies the subtle yet vibrant spirits of the city that nobody can turn away from.

Shoumei tea – a typical tea pairing with dim sum, aged tangerine peels – a classic hack to cure coughs and phlegm, and osmanthus – a flower often put in desserts or tea, are the flavors or aromas that Hong Kongers cannot live without, and also best represent the NIP Gin made out of 21 local botanicals. The duo tries to break the myth of Gin & Tonic by having created a highly refined spirit for sipping on the rocks – the taste of piney juniper berries comes through first and the mixed aroma of botanicals follows after.

Its start doesn’t come easy though. From working at a distillery at Scotland to coming up with the best distilling recipe after trials and errors, the gin makers are determined to prove that their city is not just only about finance and property, but also well-crafted products. And they have succeeded with grit.

Get the bottle here for $480 each.
