Although you can find tons of similar stores across the city, the “Master Low Key Food Shop” has definitely mastered the art of making the Hong Kong-style eggettes or and “Belgian Waffles”, which many would flock to no matter how long the wait is. Other than the regular flavor they offer, their signature “Golden Waffle” is the one to opt for or you will deeply regret.
The Golden Waffle (黃金格仔餅) is definitely your ultimate guilty pleasure! Filled with peanut butter, sugar, condensed milk and the core ingredient – salted egg yolk crumbs, this thick semicircle sandwich with a local twist of flavors is a taste of heaven. The crispy and chewy doughy goodness is full of egg flavors and surprisingly not soggy at all given the amount of spread in the fillings. The saltiness from the egg yolk complements so well with the sweetness, that you feel the urge to gulp down in just a few bites. Though $30 per piece is a bit higher than average, you won’t blame yourself from getting one at the end.
What makes this treat magical though? The owner insists on timing the cooking time once the egg batter is being poured onto the heated iron, and using a dryer to blow-dry the golden exterior for at least 15 seconds before serving to ensure its crispy enough. It proves that the tiny details make all the people return.
