What’s more symbolic of Hong Kong than nice, rich brewed coffee in a Chinese traditional cup? On a day wandering in and around Central, you might want to sit down and refresh yourself with a cup of coffee. Halfway Coffee in Sheung Wan is the place to be.

Full of vintage style.

Surrounded by stalls selling antiques, handcrafts and souvenirs, Halfway Coffee offers not only drinks but a journey to Hong Kong’s past. The cafe, unlike any other coffee shop, serves their brews in vintage Chinese porcelain cups, making it a good source for caffeine and instagram posts.

Photography inside the shop showing the old Hong Kong.

Halfway Coffee’s latest shop has now opened in Mong Kok which carries on the cafe’s signature nostalgic chic mood- distressed concrete walls with industrial art, dangling plants, minimalist light wooden tables and a hodgepodge of mismatched stools.

Order your Latte, put your money into a porcelain bucket hanging down from the ceiling and let your mind relax or bubble in this old-meets-new environment.

The Latte is smooth with airy, velvety foam. You can change to oat milk instead of milk. For trendy flavor, try the Latte with Okinawa black sugar.

Matcha Latte.

You might wonder what the characters on the cup read. Most common are 萬壽無疆 longevity of ten thousand years and beyond. Double happiness 囍 is another common lucky symbol.

Don’t worry about having to miss the aesthetics if you buy takeaway. The shop customized paper cups that comes with the porcelain print so you can enjoy the mood and the lucky charm on your go.
