If you like Chinese ceramics, Yuet Tung China Works located on the 3rd floor of the Kowloon Bay Industrial Centre is a must-see.

The sign of Yuet Tung China Works 粵東磁廠

Established in 1928, the shop is well-known for producing Guangzhou’s famous porcelain wares and making special order pieces for royal families of foreign countries, as well as for top hotels. Its treasured porcelain wares remain a pride of Hong Kong today

Orange bloom

It was the first ceramic painting studio built in Hong Kong, and the only one that is still here today. As a family business, Yuet Tung has been passed down to Joseph Tso after three generations.

At Yuet Tung, the porcelain wares have been painted by hand for more than 90 years. The porcelain wares are painted with many varieties of patterns and designs that are popular throughout the greater China area. They also have pieces with a famous rooster motif which is a symbol of family prosperity.

Rooster on the run

This place is literally packed with fabulous porcelain wares- Sky high plates, sauces, bowls, ginger jars tower over you from every side. Weaving in and out the mountains of ceramics you will discover hidden treasures and an old lady or man or two hunched over, hand painting each ceramic piece.

Watching a concentrated person at work is like looking at art, do you agree?

As automation progresses, however, more and more craftsmen are being replaced by machines. At the height of its prosperity, the shop employed 300 people, whereas now only four craftsmen remain.
Though prices can be as cheap as a few Hong Kong dollars, so can be very expensive. All reasonable prices.
