Established in 1942, Yung Kee is an integral part of Hong Kong’s heritage and culinary landscape and has become an illustrious dining destination for locals and tourists.

Entrance

Situated in the heart of Hong Kong Island’s Central District, Yung Kee was serving customers as a street stall before the city became known as a global powerhouse. As the city established itself globally after the 50s, Yung Kee became known as a popular destination for quality Cantonese cuisine at the heart of Hong Kong. Today the iconic Yung Kee Building offers causal and formal dining, serving family recipes passed down by generations for charcoal-grilled barbecue meats and classic Cantonese fare.

The signature roast goose made from fowl raised in the restaurant’s farm and roasted in coal-fired ovens, has been the talk of the town since day one. What fuels up the magic is the special sauce; a light and aromatic, meaty gravy served with yellow beans marinated in Chinese five spice. Cheaper rice and meat dishes, including the signature goose, are available 2pm to 5.30pm. Local specialties such as XO sauce, preserved eggs and cured meat as a souvenir is nevertheless great to buy as a souvenir.

Over the years, Yung Kee Restaurant never stops striving for its principle to present the essence of authentic Cantonese cuisine and the pursuit of real taste in quality dishes. The restaurant has won over 100 culinary awards worldwide and has been regularly visited by celebrities.

The restaurant underwent a complete renovation during its 70th anniversary in 2012, incorporating new features into the existing. Features such as entrance doors, the modernist grand stair with vintage hand cast tiles, a fish pond and scholar statue, were carefully retained and restored as part of the restaurant’s and Hong Kong’s heritage.
