The latest culinary craze steam seafood hot pot is now the rage in Hong Kong’s gourmet scene.
Yuet Sik Sang Heung is seafood-centric steam pot restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui that has made an impact in the area of Hau Food Street with its typical feast- crab, razor clams, scallops, conch, clams are placed on a tier inside a steam pot, while all the briny drippings go to the bottom of the pot. After this protein-rich feast, you can add noodles or rice/ congee to the soup to finish on an extremely satisfying note.
There are more than 20 types of seafood to choose from, including delectable items such as lobsters and abalones. The catch is bought everyday from the fish market and kept alive in fish tanks, ensuring maximum freshness at the dinner table.
Seafood, as well as meat and vegetables of fixed portion are available for order. You can also go for seafood combo set, which is recommended, or pick what you love to eat from the tank for market price and the staff will follow up to prepare your order. When the ingredients are served, you place the seafood on a steaming tray and close the lid. Within three minutes, your food is ready.
What’s great about this moist heat cooking is that it leaves the ingredients’ bright flavors and textures intact, as well as helping to retain the nutrients. Just make sure you don’t over- or undercook the food. The staff would be happy to help.
What’s more, you can also select the soup base at the bottom, the favourite being the mutton soup. By the time you get down to the soup, there’s a rich, thick broth just waiting to be slurped.
