Hong Kong food experience is not complete without Dai Pai Dong, cooked food stalls popular among the locals for its festive atmosphere, great food, and low cost. Started from the street, now representing North Point, Tung Po is the best Dai Pai Dong to go for food and fun.

Like other successful fellows, Tung Po offers a wide range of Cantonese classics from soup to stir-fry. While keeping traditional flavors like marinate cold cut on the menu, Tung Po impresses fans with fusion amusement like shrimps in orange sauce with yellow curry and squid ink pasta.

The reputation of a Dai Pai Dong relies on the quality of its seafood dishes which Tung Po never fails. At Tung Po, you can bring your own seafood or simply pick your live catch for the kitchen to cook it your way. Steamed scallops with garlic and glass vermicelli and storm shelter-styled mantis shrimps are always popular. Fried shrimps coated in salted egg yolk is a good choice if you drink beer.

Beer is served in small bowls

At Tung Po, beer is served in small bowls. You probably won’t see the bottom of the bowl as the waitresses constantly refill your drink. When time’s right (usually after 9 p.m.), the restaurant owner Robby will appear in his iconic look- silver mohawk and a funny face, pulling off a bunch of hilarious tricks to crack you open non-stop. He drinks with guests. He sings and dances. You can battle with him, if you can handle his moonwalk and jazz split.

Spreading over the 2nd floor of the building, Tung Po has become a true local legend that wins every guest’s heart for great fun and great food every single time.
