Tsim Chai Kee is traditional Cantonese noodle place popular in Hong Kong amongst both locals and tourists. Recommended by Michelin Guide for many years, this no frills restaurant will surprise you with its signature king prawn wonton noodle.
Right across the street from its famous rival Mak’s Noodle, Tsim Chai Kee is a relative newcomer that only set up shop in 1998. However, they are very proud of their Michelin accolades, as evidenced by the many Michelin plaques and certificates displayed on the wall. It is brimming with locals packed into community tables like sardines every day simply because of its great food of big portion and cheap price.
The restaurant only offers 3 toppings on their menu including wontons, beef slices and gigantic fish balls. The prawn wontons at Tsim were a class of its own – fresh chunky prawns and minced pork packed into a big ping pong sized juicy dumpling. Crunchy. Flavorful. Unforgettable.
The noodle soup also deserves a salute from a gourmet- firm noodles in amazing broth that has a great balance of pork and seafood with just a hint of sweetness.
If you have been to other food places in the same price range in Central, you’ll be happy to enjoy Tsim Chai Kee’s clean modern Chinese décor furnished with antique wooden benches and tables.
All in all, one of the best spots to fulfill your wonton wish in Hong Kong, if not the best.
