Hi this is Amber, an aspiring weirdo B-)
Despite being born and raised in Hong Kong, I never gave myself an “I <3 HK” badge until very recently. (Not that I own such a T-shirt now, c’mon we can do better aesthetics in here.)
It all began with my first solo travel to Western Europe in summer 2017. The trip made me realize how much I enjoy talking to people and knowing theirs cultures; and after I returned to Hong Kong, how much I love sharing my experiences like a jukebox. (I’m a Leo so, I need an audience. It’s in the stars.) That journey activated my world-consciousness switch. It was Step 1.
Then in 2018, I went to Boston, USA as an exchange student. It was before the 2019 democratic movement. Almost everyone I met had virtually zero idea how Hong Kong is different from any Chinese city, and I felt compelled to tell them what HK truly is. But when I had to defend myself, I found that I lacked the needed knowledge and words! From then on I began my long quest for understanding and appreciating this place where I call home, and I still have a looong way to go.
I certainly do not know everything about this story-rich city, but I’ll be happy enough if I’ve made you notice a thing or two about this metropolitan aside from its glitz and glamour: its vibrancy, its warmth, anything;)
