You probably have read about Victoria Peak before you come to Hong Kong, but probably not The Peak Circle Walk. It is an adjacent trail rounding the mountain, offering the best view of Victoria Harbour and most welcomed by joggers.

The Hundred-Year-Old Trail

The Circle Walk is popular among joggers because of its panoramic view of Victoria Harbour. It offers better view than Sky Terrace 428 because your view changes as you walk along the trail, and more importantly it is free and available 24/7!

The road is named after Sir Frederick Lugard, Governor of Hong Kong from 1907 to 1912. As you walk through the road, bit and pieces of road tell a story that invites you to travel back in time: the lichened lamp posts with the mesmeric signs is no where to be found in modern Hong Kong; the foundation of the cliff-side path is there support your experience since the 1920s!

The 3.5km route takes about an hour to finish. Mostly flat, thus fits everyone to walk or to jog. Should you think the walk is way too easy, you should consider to go further to High West for sunset. To get there from the Peak Circle Walk, look for the junction of Lugard Road and Harlech Road, you can see a small road leading uphill. It takes only about 15-minute walking to the summit. Enjoy the sunset!

Directions to the Starting Point of the Walk

You’re advised to start your walk from Lugard Road near the Peak Tower. The lookout will appear after 20-minute walking. Snap some photos with the background of Victoria Habour. This is a one way road, so you shouldn’t have much problem following the path back to where you started.

Recommendations

  1. There are on stores on the way, please have enough water and snacks for your walk.
  2. If you want to go for the sunset at High-West, make sure you time your visit well to see it. Sunset in Hong Kong can be anywhere from 17:30 to 19:00 depending on the season.
  3. Sunset view is looking south-west from the Victoria Peak, whereas the Victoria Harbour is nor east from the Victoria Peak.
