Housed in a beautifully restored Tong Lau, a 19th-century heritage Chinese shophouse, The Pawn brings you an exciting restaurant and bar concept with al fresco dining in a unique space across two floors: 1/F Botanicals Bar and 2/F Kitchen.
The Botanicals Bar has something for everybody. The outside terrace is perfect for brunch or an after work drink. The interior has a relaxed and distinctly contemporary vibe, with modern designer furniture and a plethora of potted plants.
The cocktail list features both classics and original creations where fruit, flower and herb flavors are the stars. One of the bar’s signatures is the Lazy Plum, with Monkey 47 Sloe Gin, Falernum, lemon juice , plum pulp, and edible orchid flower.
Using rustic and traditional cooking methods, The Kitchen serves seasonal dishes cooked with modern flair. The British cuisine on offer is more refined and lighter then the British food you might be used to. But fish and chip is nevertheless fabulous.
Not ready to eat or drink? You can always come enjoy the view. Classified by the city as an open public space, the rooftop garden is accessible to everyone.
Entertainment-wise, DJs spin in the main room every weekend. If you’re a latin music fan, the bar also hosts a recurring Cuban night salsa party called The Pawn Buena Vista Social Club – a throwback to 1920s Havana high life, filled with live music, rum, daiquiris and dancing.
At The Pawn – named after the building’s original tenant, the Woo Cheong Pawn Shop – there’s not much to remind visitors of its initial incarnation, although the high ceilings and the balcony that runs its length are features that are hard to find elsewhere in this part of the city.
