Determined, strong, staunched, and humble – Like the fisherman in Hemingway’s novel “The Old Man and The Sea”, The Old Man on Aberdeen Street also proves that good wine needs no bush.

As you walk into the bar, you will be welcomed by this vibrant splash of green. The jungle-themed wall paper and chair slipover all conveys an immense sense of exoticism, reminding one of those long-missed great adventure awaiting us ahead.

Despite its secluded presence at its exterior, the glory of The Old Man cannot be dimmed. In fact, The Old Man was actually one of the top 10 of The World’s 50 Best Bars in 2018, and has remained in top spots among Asia’s 50 Best Bars in 2019.

As the name of the bar suggests, The Old Man pays tribute to the renowned writer Ernest Hemingway. From the geometrical portraits hung at the middle of the bar lounge, to the names of the cocktails that go after the novels written by the great novelist, all subtleties in the bar salute to the great novelist, who was also famous for his prodigious drinking.

Wishing to feel completely energised for the summer amidst the Hemingway-ish booze? I would definitely recommend the following alcoholic drinks:

  1. The Dangerous Summer

The thick taste of mango curd reminds one of mango lassi. Following the fruity wave of mango curd is a subtle hint of fermented koji rice. Overall speaking, the kiwi bourbon and the mango curd give the drink a refreshing note.

2. A Days Wait

This drink definitely captures your heart if you have a sweet tooth. The sweet refreshing plum-watermelon koji goes well with the roasted marshmallow gin. Even if you are not a heavy drinker, you will still enjoy its fruity base!

Hit the booze, and be inspired by the witty flavour in your spirits. Maybe after a gallon, you will become the next Hemingway!
