Named Venice of the Orient, Tai O is the small fishing village with more than a hundred years of history. Even the Netflix show, Restaurants on the Edge, covered its fascinating food and scenery, which is the only Asian attraction introduced.
Voyage round the village
The best way to get the first sketch of the village is to join a boat trip. By listening to the local tour guide on the river, you will learn interesting stories concerning the community, while you enjoy a view crude and uncontaminated by urban development.
You might well be enchanted by the “Pang UK”, stilt houses built on the water in the colonial period to withstand flooding. Chinese White Dolphins may suddenly pop up and swim along with you, if you’re lucky enough. Check out the details on our site (link).
Walk across the dried seafood street
As well as fishing, the villagers make a livelihood by retailing dried seafood. On entering the alley, the savoury smell might go straight to your nose and lure you to buy some. You will be able to find many seafood there, such as fish maws, abalones, shrimps, scallops or any mysterious stuff! There’re also lots of yummy street-foods in between.
Heritage hotel of Hong Kong
If you feel like learning more about Hong Kong’s history, Tai O Heritage Hotel is where you shouldn’t miss. Back to 1902, it was a marine police station to defend pirates. The architecture has been upgraded to a heritage hotel showcasing the relics. You can consider having a meal in the restaurant, Tai O Lookout, housed in the building.
