Hitting the beaches in Stanley seems like a must-do thing to enjoy the southern ocean view and to escape the summer heat! You can find two beautiful shores on the two sides of the Stanley peninsula and both provide basic facilities including tuck shops, bathrooms, showers, changing rooms and even barbecue pits. There are watersports centres at each where you can hire a variety of equipment from windsurfing boards to kayaks.
Close to the Stanley downtown, the Main Beach, a locals’ all-time favorite spot to get away from the hustle and bustle in the city, is very easy to get to – so head north and walk along Stanley Beach Road for about 10 minutes. Just a heads up that it can be really windy and is particularly crowded over the weekends.
St. Stephen’s Beach is the one if you look for a more tranquil beach experience and the Stanley sunset! Further down the peninsula, the beach is smaller but is as beautiful as the main one facing the entire Stanley Bay, from where you can even spot the Murray House and the Blake Pier! Head south from Stanley Village, take a short walk along Wong Ma Kok Road for 15 minutes, and get down the stairs halfway through that lead you to the beach. Though there is a tiny tuck shop, it is not open all the time so do get enough drinking water and food unless you want to walk back and forth to downtown.
