While Hong Kong is one of the cities with the most Michelin stars in the world, Central, among all districts, has the most Michelin star restaurants. In this gourmet paradise, however, no restaurant has such long queues waiting to be served lunch every day.
Sing Heung Yuen, one of the biggest fast food stall icons, has been treating Hong Kong people for more than 60 years with its signature comfort food. Tomato beef noodles soup and lemon honey crispy bun are the original classics that made this gritty little corner famous. Made from fresh tomatoes, the soup is as rich as it gets and the bun is so simple yet incredible.
Setting-wise, Sing Heung Yuen, just like any other Dai Pai Dong, is far from fancy. Only outdoor sitting. Not very clean table. VERY HOT in summer. But, still, Office workers love dropping by for breakfast. Many don’t mind queuing for quite a while and getting sweat just to have lunch there. Good food you can bet on. Just make sure to get a 7up with salted lemon once you sit down.
It’s best to come in the afternoon, where you can enjoy a much more relaxing atmosphere at Sing Heung Yuen. Kaya crispy bun and toast with peanut butter & condensed milk are the best for a Hong Kong styled afternoon tea.
If you are a fan of Hong Kong movies, you might find it familiar sitting there, since the street and the food stall itself have been featured in many scenes of local productions.
For its good food, low cost and nostalgic vibe, Sing Heung Yuen won the heart of Hong Kong people and is a place you should put on list if you want a complete Hong Kong food experience.
