Situated in eastern Hong Kong, the remote yet bustling seafront, Sai Kung Town, is known to be a middle station before every expedition starts. However, the town itself is more than a depot, where lots of dazzling stuff shouldn’t be missed.

Top-ranked seafood street

In sauntering amidst the boulevard, there’s always a fragrance of savouriness pervades in the air. Fishermen are ubiquitous. They hawk the catches on their boats afloat, or small stalls that are roughly set up beside the roads. In fact, the promenade is a traditional seafood street since the 14th century and is regarded as a place of pilgrimage, in which many people got enchanted by those freshly-caught gourmet seafood.

Upon picking a bagful of shrimps, shellfish, squids or crabs to the adjacent restaurants the master chef will delicately turn them into palatable dishes. Instead of buying, it’s also fine to bring your own catch.

People like to enjoy seafood restaurants right on the main street facing the sea!

Mural art vibes

Art vibes have been hitting Sai Kung since years ago when a group of artists came up with an idea that was to beautify the district with murals. Painted on Man Lin Street, those vivid pictures showcased the people’s impression of their beloved hometown, animals or dreams.

Different styles of art expression

Relaxing café

To have a downshifting life has been trending among youngsters, who are longing for a little escape off the hustling reality. There’re many choices. My favourite spot is Little Cove Expresso*, a European-style café, offering light food with a cup of americano – that really makes my day!

Just get a cup of coffee and chill at the weekends!

Volcano Discovery Centre

If you’re a geo-holic, Volcano Discovery Centre should be a must-go museum. Given that Sai Kung is an area full of extraordinary stones like hexagonal columns, there are lots of information about volcanology that is presented in an interesting way.

If you wanna know more about those interesting rocks, you may visit High Island Reservoir East Dam (Link).
