In the city of hustle and bustle, you do need a few soothing moments to balance it off – maybe sipping a glass of handcrafted cocktail by the world’s mixologist Masahiko Endo in his own whiskey library can satisfy your needs. Among all the late-night bustling bars in the Wan Chai’s red-light district, Mizunara has found its own feet hiding inside a low-key building, and will offer you the best and most authentic vibes of a Japanese whiskey bar.
Quality over quantity is the motto at Mizunara. The aesthetic of the interior is dominated by spacious wooded furniture upholstered in leather, illuminated shelves filled with more than 700 top-tier spirits, and a tranquil outdoor terrace that resembles a Japanese garden. The menu is tailored for whiskey and cocktail aficionados, offering a wide range of specialty drinks, from championship cocktails to whiskey flights. Everyone wants to try a bit of everything – your wallets will surely hurt but our two recommendations can help you check off your bucket list.
Served in delicate glassware, two dreamy pinkish cocktails “Ryu-Kyu” and “Spring Harmony” can fulfill your taste bud fantasies. The Ryu-Kyu ($200) is inspired by Gimlet but with a Japanese twist, being mixed with the indigenous spirit of Okinawa “Awamori” and giving distinctive refreshing and fruity flavors. The “Spring Harmony” ($230), which earned the title of World Championship Cocktail 2015, is perfect for a cocktail enthusiast with a sweet tooth. Blended with fruity-flavored spirit, elderflower, and earl grey tea, the drink is infused with floral sweetness with a hint of tinge from the tea. Though being expensive, the quality complemented by top-notch services is definitely worth its price. Btw, don’t forget to make a reservation before hitting the place.
