Dim sum is wonderful. Just that it’s a little heavy on the meat and grease side. In the world of dim sum, Lock Cha is an excellent,  healthier choice, with the finest teas from all around the world.

Situated in the lush environs of Hong Kong Park in Admiralty, this elegant vegetarian teahouse is great for unwinding and escaping hectic HK life over the traditional breakfast and lunch of a lighter and cleaner style.

Mushroom and radish crystal dumplings

The kitchen is sophisticated and offers traditional dim sum with a twist. The fried Wasabi Green Pea Cake is creative fusion of Chinese and Japanese flavour that it is, though fried, not at all greasy but refreshing and pleasantly spicy.

The Golden Mushroom Samosa is another hot pick. The translucent squash skin hints at what’s inside ─ golden mushrooms and carrots. The delicate squash contrasts perfectly with the juiciness of the vegetable filling. Other dishes such as Mushroom Bun, Fried Green Squash Dumpling, Steamed Savoury Sticky Rice Dumpling are all as delicious as they are healthy.

“Lock” (樂) means happiness, enjoyment, and fortune while “Cha” (茶) and tea share the same pronunciation.

Apart from food, Lock Cha’s interior is also very nice. It is an antique-styled environment designed to resemble a scholar’s quarters. There are traditional music performances on Saturday (7pm to 8.30pm; free) and Sunday (4.30pm to 6.30pm; HK$150). Tea-appreciation classes on weekdays which can be arranged one day in advance (HK$1000 for three tea tastings for up to five people). Do call to reserve a seat for this culturally flavourful experience.
