Lam Kee Cart Noodles holds a special place in the hearts of the Sai Wan Ho residents because of its story. Started as street hawkers by a married couple, “Lam Kee” (林記) – named after the last name of the owner, has been around the neighborhood for almost three decades and it was finally settled in Tai on Building in 2011. The reason why the couple have been working tirelessly about 20 hours a day is that they wish to give their kids the best.
The ordering is fun and interactive where you can choose the noodles and ingredients by pointing, with everything laid out on the cart in front of you. The prices depend on how many toppings you are getting but it usually doesn’t exceed $45 if you get four. The number of options can get quite intimidating so please make up your mind first before queuing up to order (as Hong Kongers are impatient!). Do consider trying out the following if you are indecisive eater: deep-fried shrimp/squid cakes, beef brisket, dumplings with chives and pork, radish and even pig blood curd! You can only pick one type of noodles out of the many but the yellow noodles do add a nice authentic touch to it.
They offer some seating and tables behind the cart as well as along the hallway for you to situate better to slurp up your personalized bowl of noodles soup. It can get really crowded during lunch and dinner hours so you should visit at off-peak times, or else eat fast.
