Hong Kong’s Top 8 Wholesome Outdoor Adventures with Kids

August 26, 2021

If you look Hong Kong up on the web, the images you see are mostly skyscrapers on the shores of Victoria Harbour. Why not have a change of scenery to the suburbs of the metropolis or appreciate it from height? Here’s some wholesome activities we’ve gathered for a day trip out of the hectic city.

  1. The Peak Circle Walk

Have a mesmerising walk at the Peak for a panoramic view of the renowned Victoria Harbour. Do challenge yourselves with a sunrise challenge at the Lugard Road lookout or sunset catching on High West.

  1. Lamma Island

The laid-back island in Hong Kong’s south coast is a heaven to relax. Spend a day in the humble neighbourhood to discover both its local and international sides that bring you surprises.

  1. Wetland Park

The park is designed for educational and conservative purposes of the wetland in northwestern Hong Kong. Learn more about the wetland ecosystem by walking along the wooden plank road for the floras and peer through the holes in the birdhouses to look for migratory birds.

  1. Biking

If you want to experience the city at your own pace, biking is probably one of the best options. Ride along the shore in the suburbs like Mui Wo, Cheung Chau, or along the biking trails in towns like Shatin and Tai Po.

  1. Ngong Ping 360

As you glide up the cable cars in Lantau Island, you will have the city’s most important infrastructures in sight, including the Hong Kong International Airport and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. Explore the calm heart of Buddhism and Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery as you land and find your zen.

  1. Hong Kong Geopark Hexagon Stone

Hong Kong once had active volcanoes in Sai Kung millions of years ago. Visit the world’s largest hexagonal columnar stones, 3 metres tall and covers over 100km2to be accurate, and amaze yourselves by such natural wonders.

  1. Observation Wheel

A reason to travel on a ferris wheel is that it is mobile and it gives you perspectives. The 196ft wheel by the Central seafront presents Hong Konger’s pride and joy — Kowloon side of the Victoria Harbour and the cityscape of Hong Kong Island.

  1. Sai Kung Boat Tour (Island hopping)

Do you know only 24% of land in Hong Kong has been developed? Sai Kung on the East territory has loads of outlying islands where you could hop onto a boat at the Sai Kung Pier and spend an isolated tranquil day with nature.
