The Hainanese Chicken Rice Restaurant has been feeding the hungry stomachs of the Hong Kong Eastern District residents. You can often see a long queue of foodies waiting to order the classic Southeast Asian dish, Rice with Curry Beef Brisket and in-house mixed-fruit juices. If you are not patient enough with the wait, you’d better hop over to the eatery before 6.30pm.

Let’s talk about the signature “Hoi Nam Gai Fan” (海南雞飯; literally meaning Hainanese Chicken Rice in Cantonese) – only priced at $38, a plate of oily fragrant rice is topped with slices of poached chicken, drizzled with the 3 signature dipping sauces: thick dark soy sauce, minced ginger & chili sauce, and garnished with cucumber. Mix it well to ensure every grain is well coated. It also comes a bowl of mild chicken soup that refreshes your taste buds.

The locals like this dish very much!

There have been lots of positive reviews saying the dish is worth it at its cheap price, but frankly speaking, don’t expect too much quality wise especially the texture. The chicken, which is the heart of the dish, is not soft and tender enough, and the rice itself should be fluffier and moister to soak up the sauces better. The owners are considerate enough though to offer a separate space for the hungry folks. Just hop over to the room opposite the food stall, grab a seat and enjoy the flavorful cheap eat!
